I started riding in 2004, and rode in my first SF Pride Parade that same year. There is nothing more exhilarating than hearing hundreds of bikes start their engines at the same time. It was such a thrill that I decided I wanted to be part of the group that makes it all happen. I enjoy working hard every year to make sure that all the riders in Pride have a good, safe time. I also enjoy the other activities we do as a group...from rides, to parties, to fundraisers and the different ways we give back to the community. I have learned a lot with this group of diverse women motorcycle riders. It is with great Pride that I call myself a member of the San Francisco Dykes on Bikes.

It was always my dream to be a "Motorcycle Mama." In 2004 I manifested this dream and began my ride. Being part of a community of women motorcycle riders is fantastic and I'm proud to be part of Dykes on Bikes®. Typically, I've never been much of a "joiner" but I haven't looked back once since joining DOB. I love the minimalism and freedom that comes with riding... but I also struggle with wanting to carry all my trinkets with me. I'm sure I'll find the ultimate solution someday! Until then...!

Am Scottish; love to ride; my ride is currently a Honda CBR 600RR; recently graduated from Law School & plan to sit for the Bar in Feb; although I think when I grow up I want to be a freelance deckchair attendant on some tropical beach! For the most part, I try to keep life simple & will avoid drama like the plague!

I've been riding with Dykes on Bikes® in the parade since 1994 and a Board Member since 2000. As a kid, I wanted to ride just like Steve McQueen. I still do. I ride street and dirt. I have riden in a number of countries on 4 Continents and my longest ride was 15,287 miles. Nothing makes my heart race faster than really hitting the curves with a group of women other than dirt riding with my wife.

I love motorcycles and I love women who ride motorcycles... so it's a symbiotic relationship. I made a film about the history of Dykes on Bikes® which has given me a greater understanding and appreciation of the organization and the women who made it possible for us to lead the parade every year. Dykes on Bikes® is community. Dykes on Bikes® is PRIDE.

I got my first bike when I turned 40 in 1996, but did not ride in the parade until 2000. Since that first year, with one exception, my Mom has ridden on the back of my bike--you can recognize us by her "Proud Mom" sign. After our first trip down Market St, my Mom tapped me on the shoulder and asked "Can we go around again?"

I remember when I first came out 23 years ago, one of the first groups I heard about was the Dykes on Bikes, long before I owned a motorcycle, and I wanted to be a part of that organization. I've been drawn to motorcycles since I was about 4 years old. I started riding in 2001 and haven't looked back. When I moved to the Bay Area, one of the first things I did before I really even unpacked was to attend a Dykes on Bikes meeting. I've been hooked ever since. Riding is the best therapy and it's even more fun to share with others who love to ride.

I always wanted to live in San Francisco and I made that dream come true in 2008. I've loved motorcycles my whole life and grew up around them, learning to ride dirt bikes when I was 10. I started riding with Dykes on Bikes® in early 2009 and it's been a really great time. I love the friendship, the parties, our work in the community and especially the rides.

I was born in Puerto Rico and raised as an Army Brat all around. I started riding at the age of 14 on a Honda P-50. I love the feeling of complete Freedom and empowerment I feel as a woman, a Lesbian and a Butch Dyke on my Bike. I feel a great sense of pride in owning being one of the first Dykes on Bike in 1976. I have been riding every year for the past ten years and have been a part of this organizing committee. I hope that more women of color come and join us...We need you..I need your presence.

El became a member after seeing DOB come down Market street from the Castro in the old days she tells me that it was a moving experience hearing the roar of the bikes long before they became visible, seeing the reflection of the sun on the chrome of several hundred dikes. It was an experience never to be forgotten. "This experience for me has always been about women and their empowerment I hope every time I ride down Market St. Some young women sees herself in us and says 'yes I can'".

My journey to becoming a DOB member started when I arrived in San Francisco in March 2007. I was looking to meet some new people in the Bay area that had a common interest, motorcycles. I was fortunate to find the SFWMCDOB and have since joined. This is a great group of women with great ideas and ambition. I look forward to the events, meetings and meeting new people. Hope you join us for the wednesday night meetings, events and rides.

At 9 yr.s old I remember Mom being upset that I'd re-arranged my life-line on my palm from scraping it up while dirt biking with the boys. . Years later I got back involved with motorcycles when I volunteered to help SFWMC-DOB's line-up in 1990, & helped where I could there after. In 93’ I bought & road my 86' Virago/750cc the 20 miles home, as my girlfriend followed in her car. I’d just passed CHIP’s motorcycle course 2 days before. Over the yr.s, the 50k+ miles, & the participation in various Pride parades, where each city's DOB always lead the way, I’ve noticed that whether in San Diego, Denver, Vancouver Canada, Seattle, SF, or in other cities, with all of the ups & … a few of the "layin-it-down"s, more often than not, I noticed & have been inspired by the spirit power of the wind, & the visions of female warriors riding ... to get back up from .. well, what I believe … are lessons that can't be gifted to a soul any better way.=2 Hope you'll join up!

I got my wakeup call after not riding for 24 years when I saw the DOB put put down Market street. I officially started riding at 16 in Germany, but stopped when a car became affordable, and because of the weather. The Bay Area is so blessed with the weather, and what could be better to enjoy rides and events with this group that shares an interest in women on motorcycles.

My father played a role in my enthusiasm for motorcycles. When I was about seven or eight he purchased his first bike. Since that time I was determined to ride. I remember being so eager for my feet just to be able to touch the ground as I sat on his bike. I have been a motorcyclist since 1989. My first bike was an 86' Yamaha Virago. Steadily I have worked my way up in cc's to my current bike, which is a VTX 1300. In 2001 I participated in my first Dykes on Bikes Parade. That was the biggest highlight in my riding career. There is nothing like the first time, hearing over 400 bikes revving and roaring down Market Street. Riding has become one of my foremost passions in life. There is nothing like a scenic view on a clear sunny day and a big engine rumbling beneath you.
