I got my first bike when I turned 40 in 1996,
but did not ride in the parade until 2000. Since that first
year, with one exception, my Mom has ridden on the back of
my bike--you can recognize us by he r"Proud Mom"
sign. After our first trip down Market St, my Mom tapped me
on the shoulder and asked "Can we go around again?"

I started riding in 2004 and rode in my first
Pride Parade that same year. My first bike was a 76
Suzuki gs550. The ladies at the Dykes on Bikes registration
laughed when I said I couldn't turn off my bike because it
wouldn't start back up if I did. Rules are rules, I
had to turn kill the engine. Lucky for me it started
back up that morning and I enjoyed my first Pride Parade!
I now ride an 87 Honda Rebel 450 named Rojito. Best
part about her is that she starts up every time!

I came to DOB in the mid 90's, after having
moved to San Francisco from Indiana. I always wanted to be
a part of the legenday Dykes on Bikes, so in 1996 I atteneded
my first meeting. Although all of the yelling was slightly
scary, I decided to stick around for more meetings and have
been here on and off ever since. I started riding motor cross
at the age of 10 and have built custom bikes for the last
decade.

I first came to Dykes on Bikes® with my
best friend Sheila who said " Hey, Let's check out Dykes
on Bikes® and Riding in the Parade"..Next thing
ya know we are on the organinzing committee and it is five
years later!... One of the perks of being Treasurer is you
get to hang out with some pretty fine looking ladies and have,
without a doubt, tons of fun. I don't own or ride a bike,
but I love the women who do. I confess I am currently in the
process of taking the classes..I have managed by one way or
another to be ridin' bitch in front for the last 4 out of
5 years..not bad odds!... So if you are looking for some good
clean fun join us and volunteer on the committee we can always
use an extra pair of hands. I am thinking my first bike will
be a Rebel..since I have been referred to as such .. My motto
if you are not a rebel then find a cause and become one..Live
Hard, Love Strong and most importanly LAUGH OUT LOUD...

In several past year's i've enjoyed helping out DOB as Road
Capt. Coordinator & am doing so again this year (along
our new member w/Lisa F). I like volunteering with a number
of community groups, while also serving on the SF Human Rights
Commission's LGBT Advisory Committee, on the Women's Lyon-Martin
Clinic/Development Committee, & am FSE's Board Assoc.
for their FSF women's area, aka" Venus' Playground".
I served until 06' on SF Pride Parade BOD & will be working
with the Breast Cancer Emergency Fund/AEF's, as their Gala
2525's Silent Auction Coordinator. I very much look forward
to another amazing day of, " One SPIRIT, One RIDE, (with
my) ONE TRIBE "!!! I so hope to encourage LOTS MORE 07'
Pride Parade Dykes Riders to become involved year round &
join us as *DOB Core Members*, ... Yeah!

My journey to becoming a DOB member started when I arrived in San Francisco in March 2007. I was looking to meet some new people in the Bay area that had a common interest, motorcycles. I was fortunate to find the SFWMCDOB and have since joined. This is a great group of women with great ideas and ambition. I look forward to the events, meetings and meeting new people. Hope you join us for the wednesday night meetings, events and rides. Hope to meet you soon!

I love motorcycles and I love women who ride motorcycles...so
it's a symbiotic relationship. I made a film about the history
of Dykes on Bikes® which has given
me a greater understanding and appreciation of the organization
and the women who made it possible for us to lead the parade
every year. Dykes on Bikes® is community.
Dykes on Bikes® is PRIDE.

I was born in Puerto Rico and raised as an
Army Brat all around. I started riding at the age of 14 on
a Honda P-50. I love the feeling of complete Freedom and empowerment
I feel as a woman, a Lesbian and a Butch Dyke on my Bike.
I feel a great sense of pride in owning being one of the first
Dykes on Bike in 1976. I have been riding every year for the
past ten years and have been a part of this organizing committee.
I hope that more women of color come and join us...We need
you..I need your presence.

El became a member after seeing DOB come down Market street from the Castro in the old days she tells me that it was a moving experience hearing the roar of the bikes long before they became visible, seeing the reflection of the sun on the chrome of several hundred dikes. It was an experience never to be forgotten.
“ This experience for me has always been about women and their empowerment I hope every time I ride down Market St. some young women sees herself in us and says “yes I can” .
